Sewing with Sandel

Sandel fabrics are primarily designed to be cut and sewn. The fire performance of products fabricated with Sandel             may depend on the seams or joints retaining their strength during a fire.

       For best results:

  • Use only non-flammable sewing thread or equivalent.
  • Use lock stitch machine with a walking foot and rotary hook.
  • Use ball point needle #17.
  • For taped seams use Sandel binding tape. All other seams should be superimposed 4 ply.
  • Set sewing machine for not more than 8 stitches per inch. Closer stitching will significantly reduce the seam strength.
  • Seam allowance should be 1⁄2 inch and not less than 1⁄4 inch.
  • Avoid double stitching seams as a means of reinforcement.

Glueing

Sandel can also be glued to either itself or other materials. The fire performance of products that incorporate Sandel is decreased when glues are used without other mechanical fasteners or sewn seams, clamps and screws as glued surfaces will open when exposed to fire and at relatively low temperatures.

Lamination

Sandel is well suited for lamination. Bond and peel strengths can be made to suit many different applications. Sandel International can provide lamination service at.
